Over Twenty Years of Outdoor Experience
I am an experienced, fully insured, enhanced CRB checked and qualified Forest School Leader (Level 3).
I have extensive hill walking and wild camping experience in such beautiful locations such as Brecon, Snowdonia, The Lake District, Exmoor and Dartmoor and spend as much time as I can spare out and about locally on The South Downs.
I live with my wife in our little house almost on The South Downs, the proud father of two boisterous and occasionally feral boys.
Through my involvement with the local Scouting Movement, I have noticed how much confidence, self-esteem and life experience outdoor activities provide and the objective for It’s Great Outdoors! is to create accessible, informative and fun opportunities for all to do something new and hope that by passing on useful skills I can create the desire and confidence for as many people as possible to get out there and create lifelong memories whilst enjoying exploring wild places.
What schools say about It's Great Outdoors!
The children at Twineham, both boys and girls continue to enjoy Bushcraft Club term after term. It's so nice to offer them something different.
Twinehame CP School, Twineham
Simon currently leads two successful after school clubs in the Prep School, a bushcraft and whittling club for KS3 children and one of our Ardingly Adventurer Groups. The children have really enjoyed and been fully engaged with all of the well thought out and effectively led activities. He has also assisted on our Forest School programme and has helped with other outdoor enrichment activities. He has proved a valuable asset in helping us to encourage our children to connect with, learn about and care for the outdoor environment, whilst also learning about themselves .

What parents say about It's Great Outdoors!
'Being that my son loves the outdoors, he thoroughly enjoyed the 'It's Great Outdoors!' experience. It has inspired him and given him ideas of things he can recreate at home. It was lovely to see him so confident using his new found knowledge.'
'My ten year old daughter loved all of her time in the woods but especially learning to make fire, toasting marshmallows and then, of course, eating them!'
‘Our kids had the best time at ‘It’s Great Outdoors!’. They came home tired, hungry and very, very happy. Thank you x'
'My son has been on two sessions run by It's Great Outdoors! and to say he enjoyed it would be an understatement! It was the ideal activity for a lively 8 year old boy who sometimes finds it a challenge to stay focused. Simon's ability to deliver fun outdoor activities within the natural world is truly inspired and well received by both parent and child. It is a great fun learning experience and we look forward to many more woodland adventure tales when my son returns to 'The Great Outdoors'. Thanks Simon
My two boys always have a fantastic time in the Great Outdoors, they always come home full of stories!
Kerry, Mid Sussex
My son is not particluarly sporty so I always struggle to find a holiday activity that he enjoys. I discovered IGO! and have never looked back
My son loves the 'Boys Own Bushwacker' adventures that he has with Simon. He comes home, tired, muddy, often wreaking of campfire smoke and completely happy!
Yvonne, Horsted Keynes
A day spent with Simon and his team - is a day away from TVand internet, in rain or sun, making new friends, learning new skills and coming home, dirty and happy.
Lisa, Mother of Three, Ditchling
Sometimes its hard to perusade my eleven year old son to leave his game console but every time he has joined a Woodland School session, he has returned full of enthusiasm and energy with some great woodland skills. I would definately recommend it.
Days out with Simon are the perfect antidote to my computer obsessed children. Without fail, they come back rosy cheeked and buzing with enthusiasm for wildlife, survival, lighting fires (safely!) and being outside no matter what the weather. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Sophie, Mother of Four.
Rather than sitting around indoors at home, she comes back from her day in the 'wilds' full of life and overflowing with snippets about her day od adventure!
